F.i.l.e.s. Foodie Feature: The STONEGRILL Vancouver

For a culinary adventure and one of Vancouver’s most unique dining experiences, the Stonegrill is the place to eat and drink.

The adventure begins with the Stonegrill’s beautiful location. Nestled over water in the North shore of False Creek, the Stonegrill overlooks Granville Island and features spectacular views and some of the best scenery in the city, perhaps the World. The amazing views are accentuated by the restaurants elegant design and décor; featuring three levels and ceiling to floor windows to ensure that no matter where you are sitting, everyone can enjoy the panorama view that Vancouver has to offer.

The Stonegrill’s culinary adventure centers in way their food is prepared, as their name implies, on a stone grill. The steaks, seafood, chicken, and rack of lamb are all cooked right in front of you on a natural stone heated to 400 degrees Celsius (752 F). This particular high temperature Stone-grilling method sears and locks in all the juices and ensures that the proteins remain tender and moist. Anyone can achieve this by simply following some simple instructions and one will be an expert within two bites.

Moreover, the proteins are not covered in marinades, oils, and sauces. There is nothing artificial and nothing processed. The cooking stone is lightly dusted with ground sea salt to enhance the nature flavour of the protein and to prevent sticking. This means that Stonegrill meals are amongst one of the healthiest in fine dining; since marinades, sauces, and oils are unnecessary, calories are kept low. Additionally, since there is no open flame used in cooking, there is no cancer-causing charring on any of the meats.

These are two advantages to the Stonegrill’s unique cooking style. One of the best things about the Stonegrill’s cooking philosophy is that it reacquaints your palate with the inherent flavour of food.  With no rich sauces, flavouring, or cooking techniques you are left to savour the natural flavour of your food, on its own.  You can cook every bite of meat differently and specifically to your liking from rare to well done and freshly grilled every bite.

Perhaps the best thing about the Stonegrill is the fact that the stones stay hot for an hour for the best cooking environment. Unlike traditional restaurants, Stonegrill food will stay hot from the first bite to the last. Lastly, the communal nature of the cooking and eating at Stonegrill builds socializing and connecting with your dinner guests into every meal. This makes the Stonegrill a more personal and intimate dining experience; the perfect destination for dates, business meetings, or reconnecting with friends. Due to the nature of this particular stone cooking method, this is the only restaurant where every plate is hot for any banquet size up to a comfortable seating of 160 people. Perfect for weddings, anniversary parties and company functions.

All the ingredients, produce, and proteins are fresh and of the highest quality. To ensure the highest quality control, the owner himself buys the produce fresh. How many restaurants can say that?  All the meats are the highest possible quality and it shows in the unbelievable taste: tender, delicious, and fresh. Indeed, Rob Yun the owner and Editor-in-Chief of F.i.l.e.s. said that the salmon at the Stonegrill is the best he’s ever eaten. Furthermore, at the Stonegrill, everything is homemade with fresh ingredients, including their soups, salad dressings, and desserts.

The Stonegrill is centrally located in downtown Vancouver underneath the Granville Street Bridge. It is close to the Granville entertainment district and Gastown, next door to Yaletown, across from Kits and Granville Island, and just around the corner from the Edgewater Casino, Roger’s Arena, and BC Place, which makes the Stonegrill the ideal place to begin any night out on the town. The Stonegrill offers free parking and is close to the major arterial routes in and out of downtown. But, for those of you who want to leave the car at home, the Stonegrill is at the intersection of every major bus route in the city and is a hop, skip, and a jump from the Granville Skytrain Station and the Yaletown Canada Line Station. This makes commuting to the Stonegrill as easy and convenient as the food is fresh and delicious.

With a convenient location, spectacular views, fresh ingredients, top quality food, and a healthy and delicious way to cook, the Stonegrill offers a unique and unparalleled experience in fine dining. Come to the Stonegrill and let your culinary adventure begin.

If you happen to be in Burnaby, there is also another Stonegrill in the Metropolis at Metrotown. It is situated in front of the water fountain, off Kingsway and McMurray. The downtown Stonegrill is the flagship restaurant but the Metrotown Stonegrill features traditional burgers, pastas, sandwiches, Asian fusion dishes, and even breakfast.  It has one of the best Eggs Benedict in town. With the vast variety of cuisines, this will satisfy everyone’s pallet. The best eatery at an attractive price point; perfect before or after a night out or after a day of heavy shopping.
