SEEING RED 3 Mixed Martial Arts Fight Event by West Coast Promotions! Red Robinson Theatre Boulevard Casino

Seeing Red 3: The Trilogy was Westcoast promotions latest local MMA fight night at Red Robinson Theatre on Saturday September 10th, 2011. Everyone there was treated to some BC’s best talent in the cage. If you haven’t been out to the local fight scene yet, you should make an effort, because some of these fighters are bound for the big leagues.

The first matchup was an MMA featherweight fight at 145 lbs. Between local independent Bazooka Jojo in a win over Mad Dog Littlechild from Kaetan MMA in Prince George. In the beginning of round  3, Jojo offered Mad Dog a hug instead of simply touching gloves. A nice gesture, but his first landed kick was a nutter, and Mad Dog went down hard. The referee saw what looked like a knockout, and called the fight. Unfortunate, but we have to respect the referee’s call. Bazooka Joe did show well with an awesome single strike in round 1, and a great reversal on the ground in round 2. He would have won it the way he was going, so it is a bit of a mystery as to why he went into round 3 like that.

Brendan Kim from Infinity MMA in Langley quickly dispensed Johnny Bamford from Comox Valley Boxing Club & MMA by Round 1 ground and pound. After a very quick, nervous start by Bamford, Kim managed to confidently work him against the cage wall and finished him on the ground.

Featherweight, Christian Tremayne from Infinity MMA in Langley BC found the mount control position to deliver unreturned blows after almost having a guillotine on Phillip Romanov from Comox Valley Boxing & MMA.

A 160 lbs catchweight matchup was next. Ben Smyth from World Class Martial Arts in Langley was able to finish off Eli Royakers from Dragon’s Den Elite in White Rock. Stoppage by referee was called in round 2 at 2:40. Smyth showed well with a few dramatic strikes and takedowns that gave him the upper hand in a center mat battle, turning a potential sweep into a strike that gave him the opportunity to finish.

MMA Lightweight, 155 lbs.Ron Pearce, South Island MMA, Mill Bay BC.Def.Tim Kenney, Raw Academy, Vancouver BC. Pearce and Kenney had a fantastic battle and it ended in round 1, 2:12, when Pearce landed a knee strike. Great suplex and front choke attempt, great boxing and kicks from both of them.

A 185 lbs catchweight matchup gave a win for Fraser Jordan from Comox Valley Boxing Club & MMA over Vancouver fighter Dave Ferguson. At 1:53 of round 1, Jordan was able to get back position and put in a deep stranglehold. Battlefield Fight League is now calling out Fraser Jordan as the best amateur fighter in BC outside of its league.

A championship matchup for Muay Thai in the Super Welterweight division was settled in the cage, with Alex Tribe from Peterec’s Martial Arts in Victoria defeating Josh Wright from Dragon’s Den Elite in White Rock. The title match was stopped in round 4 by the referee due to unreturned blows 1:50 in. The fighters both showed lots of aggression with their striking and attacks and brought up the energy and excitement of the whole night to a new level. Tribe laid a couple of hard flurries on Wright while against the cage wall, both shared heavy knee exchanges.

The Co-main event was a title match at bantamweight, 135 lbs. Olivier Vajda, fighting out of Carlson Gracie Fight Team in Maple Ridge won the belt over Jordan Manning from Phoenix Rising in Sechelt. Manning got popped on the button at the start of the first round, only to prove how important it is to get something good in early. Vajda ate a few from Manning, as was seen by his own bloody face. Manning ended up fending off Vajda’s ground attacks, which he did valiantly, until he got caught in a leg triangle choke at 2:24 of round 1 in this exciting battle.

The main event of the night’s fight card featured Welterweight division champ, ‘Tricky’ Nick Marinos offering up his belt to the winner of the match between Saeid ‘The Prince of Persia’ Mirzaei of Reality Martial Arts and Victor ‘The Dragon’ Wang from Posener’s Pankration & Muay Thai. Mirzaei beat Wang hard with power and reach. The body slams and ground battles also took their toll. The fight doctor called stoppage after looking at Wang after the third round, already covered in blood, with many open cuts. Stoppage almost happened at the beginning of round 1 when the ref called in the doctor to look at Wang’s eye, which was already closed and bleeding. Wang’s effort however was not void of credit, having held up against Mirzaei longer than anyone in previous matchups, and taking the fight despite healing up from recent injuries. ‘Saeed Mirzaei has a ton of potential, he’s going to make UFC’ Manny Sobral said after the match.
