Couples who give to each other are five times more likely to describe their marriage as ‘very happy’…”
“Sharing is caring” is an axiom adults try to teach their kids, but a new study suggests that it’s very important for adults, too.
The study, part of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, found that generosity between spouses is key to successful marriage. Couples who give to each other are five times more likely to describe their marriage as “very happy,” compared with those who reported a low amount of generosity. Researchers believe that when you give, you’re showing that your partner is valuable and important.
But being generous doesn’t mean just buying flowers, giving each other massages and buying each other chocolates; it extends to the bedroom, too. Research found that couples who give each other the gift of regular sex were 10 to 13 times more likely to report that their marriage was “very happy.”
It’s interesting to note that generosity made the sex better — and maybe not in the way you think. Couples who were more generous to each other outside of the bedroom were also more satisfied with the quality of sex in it.
Generosity: It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
